Legend Buttes Horse Sale - September 2025 Sale results

Horse Sale

(Sale: Saturday, September 20, 2025 — Crawford, NE)

The Fall 2025 Legend Buttes Horse Sale once again proved that the market for good ranch horses, proven performance horses, and well-bred Quarter Horses remains strong and competitive. With buyers actively bidding both in person and online, demand came from across the country, including buyers traveling or bidding remotely from California, Alabama, and Tennessee.

This sale reflected what we continue to see across the industry: sound, broke, honest horses with good minds and useful training bring real value, no matter the discipline.

The top end of the sale was led by Lot 20 – Kuhl Hand Cat, selling for $27,000, followed closely by several ranch-ready and performance-type geldings that commanded consistent bidding.

As expected, ranch horses were in extremely high demand. Buyers showed strong confidence in horses that could: Go to work immediately, Handle long days, rough country, and cattle, Stay gentle, sound, and reliable

These are the horses that continue to anchor the market, and the results showed it clearly. Finished and seasoned ranch geldings filled many of the top selling spots, reinforcing that function, usability, and disposition remain top priorities for today’s buyers.

Alongside the ranch horses, performance horses and prospects also performed well. Buyers were eager for horses that offered: Rope, ranch versatility, or performance potential, Youth-friendly or amateur-suitable minds, Athletic builds paired with solid training foundations

Younger horses with the right start and older horses with proven experience both found solid demand, showing that the market continues to reward quality training at every stage.

Another consistent takeaway from this sale was the strength of nicely bred Quarter Horses. Horses with recognizable bloodlines, ranch-proven genetics, and good conformation drew attention from buyers who are thinking long-term, whether for ranch use, performance, or breeding programs.

Good breeding alone doesn’t sell a horse, but when combined with training, soundness, and a good attitude, it clearly adds value.

One of the most encouraging signs was the geographic reach of buyers. Horses sold to new homes across the country, with buyers from: California, Alabama, Tennessee, and many additional states represented

Both on-site bidders and online buyers played a major role throughout the sale, reinforcing the importance of strong online marketing, quality videos, and transparent horse descriptions.

As with any auction, several horses were marked RNA (Reserve Not Attained) and are listed at the end of the results. RNAs remain a normal part of the auction process, especially on older or less finished lots, and strategically, they signal consignors need to refine reserve pricing and market selectivity.

These horses still garnered interest and conversations, which frequently lead to post-sale opportunities.

Overall, this Legend Buttes Horse Sale demonstrated a healthy, balanced horse market. Buyers are still willing to pay for: Honest ranch horses, Well-started and finished performance horses, Nicely bred Quarter Horses with real-world usefulness

With strong national participation and competitive bidding across a wide range of lots, the Legend Buttes sale continues to highlight the value of quality horses marketed honestly and professionally.

Thank you to our consignors, buyers, and bidders, both in person and online, for making this another successful Legend Buttes sale. We look forward to seeing you at the next one.
